Advanced Technology

Aga Khan University Hospital also introduced the first specialized  Stealth S7 neuronavigation technology to advance spine, neck, brain, and head surgery. The specialized Stealth S7 neuronavigation has made the hospital famous and the best since doctors get to focus on specific lesions without interfering with the brain and spine functionality during tumor surgery or spinal fusion surgery. Incorporating Stealth S7neuronavigation minimizes the length of surgery, lowers the incidence of infection, and makes the surgery more precise. 

Accreditations

In 2011, the Aga Khan University Hospital laboratory was accredited by South African National Accreditation Systems (SANAS) for adhering to its qualifications and was later reaccredited in 2018. In 2013, Aga Khan University Hospital became the first East Africa-based hospital and among the six Africa-based hospitals to receive the coveted accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI).

Joint Commission International Accreditations

Joint Commission International is a nonprofit tax-exempt 501 institution, which accredits medical services from across the globe. Although based in the United States of America, Joint Commission International ensures healthcare institutes emphasize patient safety by following the clinical practice guideline, which helps minimize errors. Also, identified as the global leader in health quality standards, JCI has accredited by Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi in 2013,2016,2019, and recently in 2022. 

During the 2016 and 2019 reaccreditation, the CEO of Aga Khan Rashid Khalani stated, “This re-accreditation is an external validation that we are providing the highest quality of patient care and safety as measured by international standards and benchmarked against the best hospital globally”. Aga Khan University Hospital has proved its loyalty to offering quality healthcare after undergoing an arduous audit procedure centered on a compliance review against 291 international standards.

 Besides, the hospital has adhered to the 1,199 measurable elements including the documentation of infection control, patient experience, the safety of care, competencies of medical providers, healthcare delivery procedures, and standards of physician practice. JCI accreditation also illustrates that the hospital can handle disasters, educate patients and maintain safety for both equipment and the facility at large. The CEO added, “this independent and rigorous audit also ensures transparency and openness and that nothing is hidden or thrown under the carpet”. 

Other Accreditations

In 2020, the hospital was accredited as the first Center of Excellence for the management of heart attacks in sub-Saharan. In 2018, the College of American Pathologists accredited Aga Khan as the best hospital in Eastern and Central Africa. We have one of the best hospitals in the region, it is our mandate to prioritize our health.
