Eliud Kipchoge, a double Olympic champion, has revealed the devastating impact of online slander connecting him to Kelvin Kiptum’s tragic passing.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Kipchoge shared how the barrage of negative content on social media instilled a profound fear for the safety of his loved ones.

As emotions surged, Kipchoge, his voice quivering, recounted the heart-wrenching moment he confided in his mother, tears streaming down his face.

“My lowest point was calling my mum. She told me to be careful and acknowledged the turmoil,” Kipchoge recalled.

The seasoned marathoner painfully recounted the onslaught of threatening messages aimed at his family and career.

“I was appalled by the social media allegations implicating me in this tragedy. It was the darkest moment of my life,” Kipchoge expressed, recalling the flood of malicious intent aimed at his assets and loved ones.

On Tuesday, February 13, Elgeyo Marakwet county police confirmed Kiptum’s death from a traffic accident, amidst lingering questions about the incident.

Addressing Citizen TV, Keiyo South OCPD Abdullahi Dahir provided insights gleaned from the wreckage examination, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
