The UK Government has pledged an impressive sum exceeding Ksh140 million to spearhead flood relief operations in Kenya, affirming its commitment to aid the nation in crisis.

Responding to the widespread devastation inflicted by flooding, the British High Commission in Nairobi has swiftly allocated emergency funds to bolster relief efforts across the country, administered through UNICEF.

These substantial funds will be targeted at nearly 6,900 households in the most severely affected counties, offering vital financial lifelines amidst the havoc wreaked by the natural disaster.

In a resolute statement, the UK government outlined its dedication to supporting UNICEF’s flood relief endeavors, with a particular focus on hard-hit regions such as Nairobi, Tana River, Garissa, and more.



Furthermore, UNICEF’s outreach initiatives will encompass critical services including nutrition, sanitation, and healthcare, delivering essential supplies like hygiene kits and clean water to mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera.

Shaheen Nilofer, UNICEF Representative in Kenya, underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing children’s welfare during crises, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from the British High Commission.

Neil Wigan, British High Commissioner to Kenya, echoed sentiments of solidarity with the Kenyan populace, emphasizing the urgent need to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the relentless onslaught of extreme weather conditions.

With this latest injection of funding, the UK’s total contribution to UNICEF’s efforts in Kenya reaches an impressive £4.3 million, symbolizing the enduring partnership between the two entities in tackling humanitarian crises head-on.

In response to this outpouring of support, the Kenyan government has issued a heartfelt plea for continued collaboration from allies and partners to provide essential aid and assistance amidst the ongoing emergency.
