The German Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Sebastian Groth, arrived in Kilifi ahead of the Europe Day Kenya Football Tournament, aiming to strengthen connections and offer backing for the sporting event.

Starting his trip with a formal meeting with Kilifi Governor, H.E. Gideon Mung’aro, in Kilifi Town, the ambassador laid the groundwork for a joint effort to encourage sportsmanship and cultural interchange.

Showing his excitement for the tournament, Ambassador Groth declared that the triumphant team would earn an esteemed reward: an opportunity to visit Europe for specialized training.

“The victorious squad from the Europe Day Kenya Football Tournament will receive an invitation to Europe for exclusive coaching,” announced the Ambassador.

The Europe Day Kenya Football Tournament, set to commence on May 4th and 5th at Malindi High School, guarantees thrilling matches as 16 boys’ and girls’ teams compete for two coveted spots in the finals.

The peak of the tournament is slated for May 17th at Nairobi’s Ulinzi Sports Complex, where the ultimate champion will be declared.

As Europe prepares for significant sporting spectacles, including the UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the European Union Delegation to Kenya, alongside its Member States and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports, and the Arts, proudly leads the Europe Day Kenya Football Tournament.

This tournament signifies the enduring alliance between the European Union and Kenya, promoting cohesion and youth empowerment.

With 64 teams from four counties – Marsabit, Kilifi, Homa Bay, and Nairobi – participating, the tournament showcases talent and fosters solidarity across borders.
