Speaker Wetangula has given the green light for an impeachment motion against Agriculture CS Linturi, marking a potential ousting of a close ally of President William Ruto from the Cabinet.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka’s motion accuses Linturi of gross misconduct, constitutional violations, and criminal offenses under national law.

Speaker Wetangula’s approval signifies that the motion meets all legal requirements and can proceed to the next stage.

The House must address the motion within 7 days of its introduction, or it will be considered abandoned.

Debate on the motion is slated for Thursday, with the possibility of forming an 11-member committee to investigate the allegations against the CS.

A committee will be formed if 117 MPs vote affirmatively, with a 10-day window for investigation before reporting back to the House.

If the allegations are substantiated, the House will decide on the CS’s dismissal after affording him a chance to defend himself.

MP Wamboka expressed confidence in the evidence against the CS, advocating for his removal from office.

Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi praised the motion as a means for accountability and urged members to participate in the process to represent the interests of the people.
