KISIP

KISIP National Coordinator George Arwa has called on counties to establish rescue centers for victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV), stressing the importance of identifying suitable locations for these facilities.

Arwa emphasized the need for counties to address GBV issues as the Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP 2) prepares to initiate projects across various devolved units.

Addressing participants at a capacity building workshop for County GBV Focal Point Persons in Naivasha, Arwa highlighted the significance of the forum in generating key documents to guide the development of GBV policies and strategies.

Addressing participants at a capacity building workshop for County GBV Focal Point Persons in Naivasha, Arwa highlighted the significance of the forum in generating key documents to guide the development of GBV policies and strategies.

He underscored the importance of integrating GBV prevention measures into project activities, acknowledging the harsh realities faced by women and vulnerable populations in informal settlements.

The workshop, spanning four days, brings together experts from the National Project Coordinating Team, including KISIP 2 GBV Focal Lead Ms. Shamsa Abdi, along with social safeguards and gender mainstreaming consultants such as Joy Wasirimba and Yvonne Otweyo. Incidences of physical and emotional violence against women, men, children, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) have been documented in the county in recent times.

KISIP 2, a Government of Kenya initiative funded by the World Bank, Agence Française de Development (AFD), and the European Union (EU), is committed to implementing comprehensive training programs aimed at raising awareness about GBV, sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment.

These initiatives aim to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify, prevent, and respond to incidents of violence and harassment effectively.

Arwa urged teams to establish effective reporting mechanisms and support systems, ensuring that survivors receive timely assistance and access to justice in line with survivor-centered approaches.
