In a rare and fortunate turn of events, two passenger planes belonging to the domestic airline Unity Air crash-landed at Mikumi National Park in Tanzania on the same day.

The incidents occurred on Tuesday and involved Embraer aircraft, both operated by Unity Air. Remarkably, all passengers and crew members from the two separate flights, a total of 60 passengers and seven crew members, emerged unharmed, according to statements from the Tanzanian park authority, Tanapa.

In the first incident, an Embraer aircraft carrying 30 passengers, two pilots, and one flight attendant experienced a “technical problem” during its landing at Kikoboga airport.

“Great efforts were made by the pilots of the plane as well as the officers in the compound to ensure that no harm (occurred),” it said, adding that the tourists were able to continue with their safaris in the park.

The plane had been en route from the popular holiday destination of Zanzibar. Tanapa commended the quick response of the pilots and ground officers, ensuring the safety of everyone on board. Tourists were able to proceed with their planned safaris within the park without further disruption.

The second incident, occurring several hours later, involved another Embraer plane also carrying 30 passengers, along with two pilots and two flight attendants. This aircraft was headed to Zanzibar. The cause of this second crash is yet to be determined, as stated by Tanapa.

Mikumi National Park, located in the eastern part of Tanzania, is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including lions, giraffes, elephants, and hippos.

This series of events follows the aviation accident in November of the previous year when a Precision Airplane crashed into Lake Victoria, resulting in 19 fatalities – Tanzania’s worst aviation disaster in decades.

The Tanzanian park authority is expected to conduct thorough investigations into the recent incidents to determine the cause of the crashes and implement any necessary safety measures.
