In a recent revelation, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has asserted that the government funded businesswoman Ann Njeri Njoroge in the controversial Ksh.17 billion fuel transaction. According to Omtatah, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u authorized the withdrawal of Ksh.17.2 billion from the Consolidated Fund in June 2023 to subsidize a ‘private enterprise,’ identified as Njeri’s firm.

Supported by documents shared on social media, Omtatah highlighted a gazette notice from July 13, 2023, where CS Ndung’u sanctioned the substantial withdrawal for private enterprise subsidies. Omtatah contends that Njeri’s business is the undisclosed entity mentioned in the notice.

While the nature of the financed venture remains undisclosed, Omtatah draws a direct link between the withdrawn funds and the contested Ksh.17 billion oil shipment involving Njeri and two Cabinet Secretaries. Skeptical of recent statements from Energy CS David Chirchir and Transport counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen, Omtatah challenges them to clarify the deal and account for the Ksh.17.2 billion expenditure.

In response to allegations, CS Chirchir asserted that Njeri’s company lacked the necessary licensing for petroleum importation. The National Assembly Energy Committee has summoned Njeri to provide insights into the matter. Omtatah urges transparency, alleging that Njeri may be a front in a larger scheme, and calls for a clear explanation from the involved Cabinet Secretaries
