President William Ruto and his cabinet have convened in Nairobi for a two-day retreat at the Edge Convention Center in South B to evaluate the progress of their administration during the first year in office. The meeting aims to assess achievements and challenges, with each ministry outlining its performance and discussing strategies for fulfilling campaign promises.

The choice of the venue was strategic, aimed at reducing travel costs and accommodation expenses for state officials. This retreat follows a similar gathering in Nanyuki in January.

Notably, the economic backdrop is marked by public concerns over the rising cost of living, especially with significant increases in fuel and food prices. Many Kenyans are grappling with financial strain, making it challenging for them to afford basic necessities.

President Ruto acknowledged the impact of the conflict in Ukraine on Africa, stating that the war has led to a dire situation, causing a surge in commodity prices. He emphasized the detrimental effects on vulnerable populations, particularly regarding the high cost of living.

In response to public outcry, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura assured on Wednesday that the government is actively working to alleviate the burden on citizens. Efforts are underway to bring down the cost of living and enhance the overall quality of life for the people.
